When I took my first humanities course (back in the dark ages), the focus was on Western Civilizations. Western
meaning: European. Many people I have spoken with agree that when mentioning humanities as a course, they automatically
assume the focus will be on works like Dante's Inferno, or Calvinism...even Voltaire!?
No one I spoke with associated Latin American Studies with a humanities course. Needless to say, they are very
excited to learn about what I will be studying, especially since we are all so locally connected to the Latin
American culture.
This is only one of many reasons why humanities with a focus on Latin American Studies is so intriguing
& exciting to me.
Not to mention being online, and not having to commute from Cloverdale (~25 miles North of SRJC) to school,
PLUS trying to find parking!
